The Dunedin Midwinter Carnival returns this June 12 & 13 – with a postponement of 19 & 20 June 2026.
Rug up and gather with friends and whānau for a heart-warming winter celebration, where First Church will transform into a glowing wonderland as lantern light flickers through the trees and moonlit magic stirs.
The 2026 theme is A Rustle in the Night – from glowing dragons to watchful ruru and ancient tuatara, the night will be alive with curious company!
Wander among larger-than-life lanterns, don’t forget to look up as Brophy Aerials glide and twirl through the trees, while below an inspiring mix of local dance groups, musicians and performers bring the evening to life. Lantern processions wind through the grounds, favourite food trucks serve up delicious winter treats, and glowing spaces invite you to pause, explore and discover magical moments around every corner.
